Iván Contreras Brunet
Contreras-Brunet, a kinetic artist, based in Paris, whose body of work is loaded with inexplicable poetic beauty and a unique and personal way of seeing the movement. Since the 50s, along with other Latin American artists such as Jesús Rafael Soto, the concern was the aesthetics of the movement, the optical perception and its vibrations.
He is the first Chilean artist to exhibit at the Venice Biennale. His work is in important collections and museums. He has exhibited in Europe, USA. and Asia.
His work focuses solely on the study of the possibilities of color, its organization and its relations with space.
Contreras-Brunet is one of the first to have superimposed and set in motion the linear structures, critic Frank Popper tells us in the book L ’art kinetic, published in 1970 by Gauthier Villlas. He uses the gang or the colored grids to visually transfer the space and thus achieve a transparent color. His current works, moved either by the viewer, or by air, visually conquer the space and thus achieve the transparent color. ”
Today he is a solitary artist who works insistently with simple grilles cut, painted and placed in a certain way in order to capture the light and its incidence on objects, creating vibrations of great wealth. It incorporates air, time and the viewer as integral parts of his work. His work is a subjective temporalization of space and time that, playing a single key, turns by magic, into countless varied sounds. The presence / absence, dematerialization and incorporation, take shape in a breath of poetry and chemistry.
Contreras-Brunet, artista cinético, radicado en París, cuyo cuerpo de obra está cargada de inexplicable belleza poética y de una forma única y personal de ver el movimiento. Ya desde los años 50, junto a otros artistas latinoamericanos como Jesús Rafael Soto, la preocupación era la estética del movimiento, la percepción óptica y sus vibraciones.
Es el primer artista chileno en exponer en la Bienal de Venecia. Su obra se encuentra en importantes colecciones y museos. Ha expuesto en Europa, EE.UU. y Asia.
Su obra se aboca únicamente al estudio de las posibilidades del color, su organización y sus relaciones con el espacio.
Contreras-Brunet es uno de los primeros en haber superpuesto y puesto en movimiento las estructuras lineales, nos dice el crítico Frank Popper en el libro L’ art cinétique, editado en 1970 por Gauthier Villlas. Él utiliza la cuadrilla o las rejillas coloreadas para traspasar visualmente el espacio y lograr así llegar a un color transparente. Sus obras actuales, movidas ya sea por el espectador, o ya sea por el aire, conquistan visualmente el espacio y logran así llegar al color transparente”.
Hoy es un artista solitario que trabaja insistentemente con unas simples rejillas recortadas, pintadas y colocadas de cierto modo con el fin de captar la luz y su incidencia en los objetos, crean- do vibraciones de gran riqueza. Incorpora el aire, el tiempo y al espectador como partes integrales de su obra. Su trabajo es una temporalización subjetiva del espacio y el tiempo que tocando una sola tecla, convierte por arte de magia, en un sinnúmero de variados sonidos. La presencia/ausencia, la desmaterialización e incorporación, toman forma en un soplo de poesía y química.
