Mateo Maté
Mateo Maté (Madrid, 1964) utiliza objetos cotidianos, incluso a menudo ligados a su propia rutina doméstica, para explorar cómo en la modernidad tardía los espacios que habitamos están atravesados por tensiones y violencias en las que lo íntimo y lo social, lo político y lo existencial, lo individual y lo colectivo se entremezclan y confunden. Interesado por el potencial simbólico de la metáfora cartográfica, Maté crea espacios escultóricos y performativos que a la vez que nos resultan familiares, nos generan un profundo desconcierto, como si estuvieran plagados de peligros latentes, de enigmas perturbadores. En sus trabajos, el artista madrileño plantea que en un contexto como el actual, en el que nuestros entornos más inmediatos se han convertido en geografías indescifrables y llenas de amenazas e incertidumbres, tenemos que repensar y reinventar la noción de habitar, ser capaces de desbordar nuestra mirada y devolverle la concreción a los espacios y objetos que nos rodean.
Mateo Maté (Madrid, 1964) uses everyday objects, even often linked to his own domestic routine, to explore how in late modernity the spaces we inhabit are crossed by tensions and violence in which the intimate and the social, the political and the existential, the individual and the collective intermingle and confuse. Interested in the symbolic potential of the cartographic metaphor, Maté creates sculptural and performative spaces that, while familiar to us, generate a profound confusion, as if they were plagued by latent dangers, of disturbing enigmas. In his works, the Madrid artist states that in a context like the current one, in which our immediate surroundings have become indecipherable geographies and full of threats and uncertainties, we have to rethink and reinvent the notion of inhabiting, being able to overflow our gaze and return the concretion to the spaces and objects that surround us.
